WHAT CAUSES FIBROIDS IN WOMEN?
Fibroids affect up to 50 per cent of all women, and high levels of estrogen increase the risk of developing these growths. Fibroids may also have genetic causes. Fibroids are most common in women in their 30s and 40s.
HOW ARE FIBROIDS DIAGNOSED?
A pelvic Exam helps you identify fibroids; an ultrasound scan of the uterus and pelvic region gives a better understanding and clarity.
CAN FIBROIDS TURN INTO CANCER?
Fibroids very rarely become cancerous. Less than one in every 1,000 women will develop a cancerous fibroid. Current research suggests that fibroids do not increase your risk of cancer either.
ARE FIBROIDS PAINFUL?
Most of the fibroid cases cause few to no symptoms. However, patients can occasionally experience fibroid cyst pain. The patients typically describe the pain as dull pressure in the pelvic area.
DOES FIBROIDS CAUSE FERTILITY ISSUES?
Most uterine fibroid cases do not cause infertility. However, they can make conception [conceiving] more difficult as they may block the fallopian tubes and minimize the space within the uterus.
